Earlier this year, I made the difficult decision to leave my Wall Street job of nearly 7 years. Why? To focus on Find Flights for Me.
Over the last 3 years, I have helped countless people use turn their credit card points into better travel experiences and help them save money. I guess you could call it a passion. Any extra free time I had outside my already-demanding work, I found myself looking up award flights; staying up to date on points news; and sharing what I could with the points & miles community.
Now, I’ve made the decision to build Find Flights for Me the best place for all things points & miles – continuing to focus on helping others use their points for luxury travel & experiences. I left my job to pursue this goal.
It’s also important to mention, I am subscribed to pretty much every points & miles deal newsletter and service out there. To be honest, I think I can offer something better or unique than them. That includes sending hard-to-book deals before they do or providing more relevant tips & tricks when it comes to booking that flight. In the last year, I sent 5 of the last 8 premium (defined as business or first class) “unicorn” deals before another popular newsletter sent them. This is despite me being one person working 60-80+ hours a week on Wall Street vs. a team of 10+ full-time employees who’s job is to search for flight deals. I have also sent 2x more premium points deals than another ~$200/year subscription. In no world should I have ever beat them to sending these deals, yet here I am.
This gave me the confidence that I could offer something that people would find valuable and hopefully pay me for.
Who is Find Flights for Me?
No more mystery person behind the cute frog pictures you’ve seen on social media.
My name is Alec Legg. I worked on Wall Street for about 7 years and loved what I did. I got to research and write about stocks every day; talk to and learn from executives, founders, and investors; and make a lot of friends along the way. The hours were tough, but I truly loved what I did.
I’m from the DC area, and currently live in the Philadelphia area with my wife. We try to do at least one big trip a year (using points of course) and sometimes we can even sneak in a second major trip. But my biggest beneficiaries (besides my subscribers), have been my parents, who have flown international business & first class more than me since I started redeeming points in 2021.
I’m a big airplane nerd and love traveling. A great combo to get started in the points & miles hobby. I opened my first points-earning card in 2021, thanks to TPG. The points I got from the American Express Platinum signup was turned into a round-trip business class award through ANA’s program. Somehow I snagged an EVA business class ticket from JFK-TPE and flew on ANA from Tokyo back to IAD. I started posting on social media in 2023, with a focus on sharing how to redeem points for flight deals.
Now, I am hoping to build out the best award alert newsletter, helping people book their dream trips or just help people travel better.
Why I started Find Flights for Me?
Back in 2023, I started seeing a lot of social media posts about using points to travel. To be honest, a lot of the content was not great and was selling a vague dream of flying business & first class using points. There was no real explanation on how or what needed to be done, or how difficult it was to snag an aspirational reward flight. Unless of course you paid for their expensive course and/or signed up for a credit card with their affiliate link.
I felt there was an opportunity to provide more actionable and easy-to-understand content, particularly around using points to redeem for aspirational travel. The first deal I ever sent was a screenshot of dates with business class award availability at a “saver” rate on my phone’s notes app. From there, I started sharing more detailed instructions and saw Find Flights for Me gain popularity.
Why the Find Flights for Me Subscription?
First off, if you have been a free subscriber of my newsletter, or enjoyed seeing my Instagram posts -thank you! I hope you got value out of the work I did and were able to book a sick deal. I appreciate all the feedback, interest, and encouragement over the last few years and am happy that this hobby has helped me stay busy and allow me to make new friends.
So, why am I now adding a paid subscription? Well, I have always thought about monetizing, and some people have told me I should just charge money as a part-time gig. However, that didn’t sit right with me. There are so many great services out there that have full-time teams sending deals. I didn’t think it would be right to not give my 100% effort but receive payment. So, I decided to quit my job and send flight deals full-time. With that, I have decided to offer a paid subscription option for those who want to get a lot of premium points flight deals in their inbox. I think my service can be very valuable to those who need some help finding flight deals, want to make sure they aren’t missing anything when it comes to using points, or for those who just want to save time searching themselves.
